The Sims 4 House Installation Guide - Illustrated Version
The Sims 4 House Installation Guide
Download and extract the files, copy the Tray and Mods folders to your Sims 4 game folder, launch the game, open the Gallery, select the house, and place it on the lot.
Detailed Installation Steps
-
Install House Files
After downloading the house, extract the archive. Copy and paste the house files from the Tray folder into the "......\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Tray" folder.
Note: This folder is located in "Documents" and is the game save folder, not the installation directory. Files must be placed in the Tray root directory, not in subfolders.
-
Install Custom Content
If the house includes custom content, after extracting, copy and paste the custom content files from the Mods folder into the "......\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Mods" folder.
Note: This folder is also located in "Documents". You can create subfolders within the Mods folder.
-
Launch the Game
Open The Sims 4 game, create a new save or load an existing one. Select the world you want to move into and enter the town map.
-
Select a Lot
Choose a lot to move into. It is recommended to select a lot equal to or larger than the house size.
You can first move in a Sim household (must be a residential type), or edit an unoccupied lot (including residential or community lots).
-
Open the Gallery
After entering the lot, click the third icon in the top right corner (a glowing lightbulb), or press the F4 key to open the "Gallery".
-
Place the House
In the "Gallery", under the "My Library" tab, find the desired house based on its picture and name.
Click the picture, then click the button in the bottom right corner of the enlarged pop-up image (a downward arrow). Select "Furnished" (sometimes you also need to select the lot type), check "Yes" to confirm, and place it on the lot.
For houses with custom content: First, click and check the "Include Custom Content" option on the left side of the "Gallery" (Traditional Chinese: "包含自訂內容").
You can use the filter function: Click the "Lots" option, select the lot size, click the "Other Creations" option, view houses by their upload date, or enter keywords from the house name in the "Item Name" field.
-
Start Playing
Click the first button in the top right corner (two people), or press the F1 key to enter Live Mode, where you can live and play.
Click the Pause, Play, and Fast-Forward buttons (or press the 0, 1, 2, 3 keys) to stop, start, or speed up time.
Sims can walk around, use furniture and facilities, interact with each other, etc.
Click the floor buttons to view the first floor, second floor, etc.
Click the wall buttons to raise all walls, partially raise them, or lower/hide them.
Backup Game Cheats
The game cheats in the following steps are for reference only and may not be needed in most situations:
-
Activate Free Object Placement Cheat
After entering the lot, but before opening the "Gallery", press Ctrl+Shift+C. In the input box that appears in the top left corner, type the cheat "bb.moveObjects on" and press Enter to activate it. This cheat can prevent individual items in the house from disappearing.
If your Sim family's funds are insufficient to purchase the house, you can input the "motherlode" cheat multiple times to increase funds.
-
More Complete Cheats (Backup Only)
- Main Cheat: testingCheats on
- Free Object Placement: bb.moveObjects
- Unlock Hidden Objects: bb.showHiddenObjects
- Unlock Reward Items: bb.ignoreGameplayUnlocksEntitlement
- Unlock World Objects: bb.showliveeditobjects
-
Unlock Special Lot Editing Rights Cheat (Backup Only)
bb.enableFreeBuild
The above are some game cheats you can optionally use when installing and placing houses. Apart from increasing funds, the others may not be necessary.
Sometimes, for safety, you can activate the cheats before placing the house. Alternatively, if you get a missing items prompt when placing the house, activate the cheats and try placing the house again, or check for other issues.
