Brewing Stand & Basic Preparation

Before brewing potions, you first need to craft a Brewing Stand. The Brewing Stand is crafted from three Cobblestone and one Blaze Rod.

Blaze Rods are dropped by Blazes in Nether Fortresses. Place the Brewing Stand on the ground and right-click to open the brewing interface. Ingredients go in the top slot, Water Bottles in the bottom.

Making Water Bottles

Every potion starts with a Water Bottle. Water Bottles require 3 Glass Blocks crafted into Glass Bottles in a Crafting Table. Once crafted, fill the Glass Bottles by using them on a water source or a Cauldron to get Water Bottles.

Brewing Steps

The brewing process happens in several steps:

  1. Add a base ingredient (usually Nether Wart) to create a base potion, which has no effects on its own.
  2. Add a secondary ingredient to give the potion an effect.
  3. Add a tertiary ingredient to enhance the effect, extend duration, or even corrupt the effect.
  4. Add Gunpowder at any stage to turn the potion into a Splash Potion, making it throwable and letting effects spread.

Each brewing step takes 20 seconds.
