Building the Cake Ingredient Workshop

In Minecraft's Survival Mode, making a cake requires sugar, milk, and eggs. While milk can be obtained infinitely from cows, acquiring eggs and sugarcane is not as easy. Therefore, you can build a cake ingredient workshop that combines chicken farming and sugarcane cultivation to conveniently gather the necessary materials.

1. Confirm the Location and Lay the Foundation

The location for the cake ingredient workshop can be set up near the animal shed, as its main structure is a chicken coop. After selecting the spot, enclose a 15x9 area with stone walls, then place a ring of oak fences (fence type can be chosen freely) on top of the walls. Next, use cobblestone stairs and cobblestone slabs to build an entrance path at the front of the foundation, and replace the middle fence with a fence gate.

2. Plan Ahead to Avoid Mistakes

First, design the layout inside the ingredient workshop. The first step is to determine the components: a small shelter from wind and rain, a high platform for the chicks to play on, a flowing water sugarcane field, and a small tree to restore a natural feel. The second step is to determine their positions. The position design can refer to the image below. Adventurers can use their imagination to change the types of components and their placement.

  • Sugarcane, Water
  • Small Shelter
  • Tree
  • High Platform

3. Making the Small Shelter

Place the small shelter on the left side of the ingredient workshop. First, enclose a 4x3 area for the shelter with stone walls, leaving two gaps, and build it up with oak fences. For the roof, use cobblestone slabs and cobblestone stairs to make it look ventilated and refreshing.

4. Building the High Platform

Use stone walls and cobblestone stairs to build a four-block-high platform support, giving it an elegant, hollowed-out feel. The platform surface is made of oak slabs (the example uses birch slabs). The platform can extend beyond the stone walls because, although chickens don't take fall damage, like most mobs, they won't voluntarily jump from high places. Finally, decorate the platform with leaves and birch fences.

First, dig a small pit as shown and place two chests. Place hoppers facing the chests on the sides of the pit (hold the sneak key while clicking the hopper on the side of the chest). Pour a bucket of water at the other end of the pit, and finally add stone walls and oak fences.

5. The Source of Sugar—Sugarcane Field

The water flow device does not automatically harvest sugarcane, but it can reduce the workload. For example, you can cut the sugarcane through the fence, and some of it will fall into the water and be collected in the chest. The water flow will also temporarily trap many chickens, making it easier to collect eggs.

6. The Shade-Bringing Small Tree

In the scorching summer, the absence of a tree can make the ingredient workshop look hot and lifeless. When making the small tree, you can plant a regular tree and modify it, or build it yourself: first, build an oak log 12 blocks high, wrap leaves in two layers around the middle and top parts of the tree, and then use some leaves to create drooping foliage.

7. Embellishments and Decorations

Use glowstone, prismarine, leaves, and other decorative blocks to adorn the ground and various facilities. Then, sprinkle bone meal on the ground; the grass and flowers that grow will make the entire ingredient workshop feel much more natural. Be careful when placing decorative blocks; avoid placing too many blocks near the fences to prevent the chicks from escaping.

This is the complete construction process for the cake ingredient workshop. It not only makes the living environment more aesthetically pleasing but also allows you to obtain cake-making ingredients at any time, killing two birds with one stone.
