Minecraft End Crystal Introduction
End Crystal
End Crystals, also known as Ender Crystals, are entities found in the End of Minecraft, and they are also an item.
Location and Appearance
End Crystals can be found on top of obsidian pillars in the End. Their base is made of bedrock, with a floating crystal above. In the End, the base is embedded in the bottom of a bedrock block, and the crystal floats one block above the base, with fire continuously generating at that position; any blocks occupying the crystal's position will be removed. End Crystals are not solid, and players and entities can pass through them freely. The Ender Dragon also passes through crystals without taking damage.
Uses
Healing the Ender Dragon
Their main purpose is to restore the Ender Dragon's health. End Crystals heal any Ender Dragon within a 32-block range, restoring 1 health point every 0.5 seconds. A single End Crystal can heal multiple Ender Dragons simultaneously. The End Crystal's healing beam cannot be blocked or weakened by any entity or block.
Respawn the Ender Dragon
As an item, an End Crystal can be placed if the two blocks above the bedrock and obsidian are air or replaceable blocks, and no other entities intersect that area. If End Crystals are placed on all four sides of the exit portal, this will respawn the original End Crystals on the obsidian pillars and then respawn the Ender Dragon before exploding.
Explosion
End Crystals can also explode, and they have the unique property of causing all nearby End Crystals to explode simultaneously, allowing for rapid (by placing End Crystals) large-scale destruction or unusual traps.
When attacked, even if the attack deals 0 damage, the End Crystal will explode. The explosion power of an End Crystal is the same as a charged Creeper, 50% more powerful than TNT. Any Ender Dragon being healed by that End Crystal will receive 10 damage.
Did You Know?
- Placing water on top of an End Crystal with a bucket creates a looping effect: the fire continuously gets extinguished and reignited, and the water attempts to flow down and is blocked. The water will not spread outward because each time it flows down, it is covered by the reigniting fire.
- Unlike TNT, which also has explosive properties, hitting an End Crystal will make it explode. However, if the crystal is submerged in water first, it can be safely removed.
- Entities only check if they are on fire while moving, so a stationary End Crystal will not be detonated by its own fire.
- Sometimes, after an End Crystal explodes, the fire will continue to burn.
- In Hard mode, the increased explosion damage of End Crystals makes them more effective compared to other weapons. The Ender Dragon and Wither become extremely easy to defeat, and if the End Crystals are placed well, a player wearing full enchanted diamond armor can also be killed by the explosion.
